Origin of the ‘Tha’ in CCW Tha Riders
When Cleveland CycleWerks first released their line of bikes over 10 years ago, naming their bikes required federal filing for their wordmarks. Since common names like ‘Heist’, ‘Misfit’ and ‘Ace’ are very difficult and otherwise insanely expensive to copyright, including the proper spelling of ‘The’, the work-around was to use the phonetic spelling, ‘Tha’. And since our site was launched not long after CCW launched Tha Heist, Tha Misfit and Tha Ace, it was only appropriate to call ourselves Tha Riders. And here we are almost 10 years later, still holding on to the nostalgic name. Call it cool, call it weird, just don’t call us ‘The’ Riders : )
